Registered: Aug 1999 posted 01-27-2000 11:42 AM                     Our local UA palace, The "Beaucatcher" (named after a mountain) has 7 theaters. I dont go there very much, but when I have, I noticed a dim bluish picture--like xenon on its last leg--and generally dirty carpets and generally poor attitudes from employees. EDIT TIME! The theatre has new carpets and generally looks great in 2005. Presentation has improved drastically. Good bright screen images. Well, the newspaper still had the theatre ad in the paper, the UA website still had showtimes, but the theatre just picked up all their gear and walked out without telling anyone. Now, the mall is sueing UA because they broke a lease agreement and owed months of rent. Another UA theatre here in town is up for sale. That leaves an old, crappy 8 screen and a new stadium 12 plex. I've heard from one of the managers, that UA is expected to file chapter 11 in the next couple of months. I'm sure many of the newer theatres will be purchased whole. But maybe some collectors could pick up some gear as well. Who knows, it's probably just a pipe dream.  |  IP: Logged
