Perhaps someone can develop a more specific mathmetic formula for this observation: The more of the movie they show you in the trailer, the more it will suck.

Here's another thing: the teasers are usually more interesting than the trailers themselves. Why not just go to 30 second teasers? Aside from making the lives of managers and projectionists easier (you don't have to pack 30 minutes worth of crap on the front of a two hour movie and then still figure out how in the hell to get 5 show times a day) having only quick teasers might force some of those idiots who arrive late all the time to get to the theater EARLY, get their refreshments and plant their big butts in their seats before the lights go down!

If trailers were cut down from 2 minutes to 30 seconds, instead of running 5 trailers per movie, theaters would then run 20 trailers per movie. That would be much more tiring. Besides, these "combo trailers" that are coming attached to features nowadays feel like I am watching a big TV with their rushed feeling.

OK, All this talk of poor trailers has gotten me mad! I have always been an advocate of the 60 second trailer. I love teasers. However, there are a couple trailers out there in recent memory that *seem* like they give away the movie but don't even tell you the real plot such as In the Bedroom. A.I. was a great trailer...didn't show you anything more than what you needed to know.

Why can't studios get it through their heads that this will suffice. The Mission to Mars teaser I remember people raving about...Once the full trailer and movie came out it was a different story altogether. But geez, just think if they'd left it with the teaser.

How does somebody get the job of a trailer cutter? Because I want it! Sign me up.

Here in the UK ( I assume the US has one fo these guys too ), trailers are always voiced over by 'Movie Voice Man', who sounds like Sly Stalone dropped down 6 octaves. What are they going to do when he retires??

Movie Voice Man is Don LaFontaine. Jim Cutler sounds a lot like him, and does voiceovers for ESPN and Judge Mills Lane, among others.

So why is it Mr. Movie Voice Man is on almost every sing trailer? I've wondered that since I was a little kid. TV commercials, too. (Not just for movies, but for others.)

I like 2 minute trailers. I like trailers that look like mini-movies (Dinosaur). But most of all, I like teasers. I agree that some trailers give away the movie. Alot of comedies, for example, Shallow Hal, have the funniest parts in the trailer, and then you'r dissapointed when you see the movie. But the movies usually do have some kind of ending that isn't given in the trialer.

My favorite teasers: Monsters Inc, Ice Age, Star Wars EP II, Star Trek: First Contact.

Episode II Breathing, Episode II Black Eyes, or episode I?
I enjoyed the the Episode I trailers, but I cant say the same for the ones for Episode II.

I said Ep. II, so that leaves out Episode I. I said teaser, so that means breathing, not black eyes.

Ok, I wasnt sure.
I know a lot of people who really enjoyed the Episode I teaser but have hated the Episode II trailers.
I just didnt know if you put Episode II by mistake or if it was one of those that you were actually talking about.
I still consider Black Eyes a teaser even thougt its a full lenght trailer.

Optimus Prime from the Transformers cartoon seems to voice a lot of trailers. I guess when the Transformers gig was up he had to find something better to do, like lend his voice to every single trailer.

Dwayne likes Optimus Prime.

Here's another howler: The Count of Monte Cristo trailer has a voice-over tag that goes "This fall . . ." Guess when that movie is being released? The end of January! Not only that, the trailer is attached to an "Oscar Bait" picture (The Royal Tenenbaums).

While Disney-owned ABC parrots US gov't propaganda as "news", Disney-owned Touchstone Pictures doesn't pay close attention to trailers.

The reason Movie Voice Man does every freakin trailer and tv promo on the PLANET, is because Hollywood execs are ineffectual wusses who have chicken fat for spines. Someone hears a CEO at one of those wine and brie cocktail parties say that Movie Voice Man's chonic-state-of-strep-throat sound was "compelling," so now everyone's afraid to risk using another voice -- they don't have the cahones to hire anyone other than Don (cept Disney -- they still have their veteran Happy Voice Man).

This phenomonon of one guy getting every single VO job in the entertainment market is not making the other hundreds of voice-over artist very happy. The guy drives around in a limo drinking champaigne (and probably eating sandpaper strips), going from one recording studeo to another, ALL DAY LONG. I do some voice-over work occasionally and I can't tell you how maddening it is to hear this guy's gravel throat on promo after promo after promo -- you can't get away from him. Of course it's nice that the guy was able to parley such a successful career out of such a old, gutteral sound (me, I'm thinking Faust), but damn, dude, give someone else a chance. And BTW, Don, watch your back if you ever come to Brooklyn.

I'm a Student Second-run Cinema. I'm currently running the 'Lord Of The Ring: FOTR' Trailer. We are showing it in exactly a weeks time. The traier has "December" in it twice. One at the end in silence (which I removed first). And agin in the middle (which I removed after screening the trailer for myself)

I hate trailers with dates in them! They make it sound like everyone should go to the movie on the exact same date, which of course would be impossible.
