Author Topic: Super Lumex? Matt Close Expert Film Handler Posts: 226 From: Hervey Bay, QLD, Australia Registered: Sep 2001 posted 11-24-2002 06:40 PM                        Bumping this up ..... I am thinking of running a 2500W lamp in my super-lumex. It currently runs a 2000W lamp, but no matter how much i 'fine tune' things, I just can't get the picture to look vibrant enough. It seems in the manual that you can use a 2500w lamp, and obviously people on this thread are doing it, but I was concerned that the tag on the back of the lamp-house states 85A max. I would usually run a 2500W lamp at around 90A...... which I thought was the norm for a 2500W lamp..... so what do you guys reckon? ... The recitfier I have is a 3-phase IREM 95A max model. ( heavy to get up the stairs!!!!!! ) Should I use this rectfier for 2500W lamps, and would the super-lumex be suitable also? Just a side-note to this ..... we have a couple of cinemechanica X-2000 lamphouses running off smaller IREM rectifiers, and in the last 2 weeks, a new lamp has been placed in each, and each EXPLODED within 1 day of operation. The old lamps (whch had run fine for ages), were placed back in and a still running fine ( as fine as a lamp that need replacing anyhow ) Could it be a bad batch of lamps? Supply problems from the power company? I can't find anything obviously wrong with either unit Any advice with these two issues would be greatly appreciated.  |  IP: Logged Gordon McLeod Film God Posts: 9532 From: Toronto Ontario Canada Registered: Jun 99 posted 11-24-2002 06:58 PM                     I have had several brand new lamps go bang almost at once lately all OSRAMS 2K The super Lumex will take the 2500HS and I have run them right up to 100amps (there max) with no problems Just make sure you have a good strong exhaust fan as it gets hot  |  IP: Logged Matt Close Expert Film Handler Posts: 226 From: Hervey Bay, QLD, Australia Registered: Sep 2001 posted 11-24-2002 07:22 PM                        Gordon .... funny you should say that .... these were both 1600W OSRAM lamps , and it was only a month ago at this location that they had a 2K OSRAM explode also ...... 3 in a month ... not bad .... I have a very sorry looking super-lumex now sitting on the bench... you should see the dents in the reflector!!! Oh .... and I rang OSRAM .... the reply being along the lines of 'Oh no, that's most unusual ... haven't heard of anything like that happening' hmmmmmmmmmmm  |  IP: Logged Gordon McLeod Film God Posts: 9532 From: Toronto Ontario Canada Registered: Jun 99 posted 11-24-2002 10:09 PM                     Even less funny as Osram is no claiming that retroactivly they have no responsability for reflector damage coverage ( considering 2 super lumex's 1 Zeis xenesolIII and a Knisely Xenex 1 all costly reflectors) I am very disapointed with osram and definitly will not be recomending them again From now on it is SQP  |  IP: Logged Steve Guttag We forgot the crackers Gromit!!! Pricing is good, too. Also just replaced a reflector in a super lume-x. No bulb problems... just tired, old reflectors. It's amazing how these things sneak up on you. You don't realize how much good a new mirror can do ya... especially when looking at the tired old beast & considering higher wattage as a solution.  |  IP: Logged Andrew Duggan Expert Film Handler Posts: 127 From: Albany, NY, USA Registered: Jun 2002 posted 11-27-2002 10:30 PM                        I also replaced a reflector in a super lumex recently & couldn't agree more. I was stunned by how much better everything looked. The old reflector I took out was beaten up to the point where it looked like it was made out of stained glass Wow...running a lamphouse in the basement with a 100 watt bulb...Looks like I might have a new project for the next rainy day... -Andrew  |  IP: Logged
