Actually - there is a Cinemark in Oak Ridge, TN - Tinseltown 14.

CORRECTION:
The Stevens Point 5 is not closing. The Mariner 4 in Surperior, WI, is however.

Never trust what I say again. You see, last night at about 2am I had this wonderfull brainstrom. I could figure out which Carmike theatres were closing where by checking to see if the theatres in question had updated their online showtimes with next weeks schedule. This should be done on Tuesday (not replacing the current one, merely appearing below it).

So I began my investigation. I saw that the Mariner 4 showtimes were not updated and that Steven's Points were. So since I knew for sure Wasua and Appleton were closing, and that there were 3 total, that the Mariner 4 must be next. WRONG!! I can say with absolute certainty-ie I talked to my Division and District Managers today-that the Mariner 4 IS NOT closing and Stevens Point is.

Well, with my new found discovery I began investigating showtimes in other states. This is how I figured that the theatre in Austin, MN was closing. WRONG. Checked the showtimes again today, they're updated for next week.

So in clonclusion, my theory is still partially sound, I was just checking too early.

I would wait until Wed to check these times. With eNowShowing that Cinemark is tied into, I check my theatre times to see what and how many prints we are gaining / losing. Sometimes when the schedule is made out and the information is pulled at night something is wrong and they get it fixed on Tuesday. So by Wed is should be correct.

I've found that the Carmike theatres in my area (Huntsville/Decatur, AL) sometimes do not get their showtimes posted until midday Friday! About a month ago, on Friday morning, I checked the showtimes for the Carmike 8 in Decatur and nothing was listed. I called the theatre to verify that they hadn't closed, since the last couple of times that had happened with two other theatres in my area, they had closed!

I find that Carmike's theatre showtime information varies in consistency and reliability from theatre to theatre. Some list the sound formats and have the showtimes available early. Some list nothing but the movie titles and times and don't get them up until the last minute. One week not long ago, out local Carmike 10 had the previous week's showtimes posted for an entire week!

Today, it's Edwards Theatres that has filed for Chapter 11 Protection. For those that may not know, this is a strong regional company primarily located in Southern California with 700+ screens.

What do you expect. These big time companies with MBA's and corporate attorneys that do demographic studies etc etc. surely they know a little common sense. WRONG!!!
WRONG!!!
Edwards is no exception. They put a 20 screen complex in the same parking lot of an AMC30 in the Ontario Mills Mall down here in southern calif near Rancho Cucamonga bout 40 miles east of L.A. Here is the problem. Both theaters were built roughly at the same time. (months apart) They are about 500 yards away from each other. The area is already saturated with theaters but that never stops anyone. The AMC30 is adjacent to the Mall. (access from the mall) The Edwards is not. Everyone that shops at the mall goes right to the AMC. Now why did someone at least not think about this?

Yet the Edwards 3d Imax killed the museum run Iwerks Ultra70 3d theatre in the mall
Does anyone know where that equipment went it was being sold

We tried to get some of the Ontario iWerks equiptment here at the Kansas City Extreme Screen, but they would only sell all of it as a whole. I don't know who ended up buying it. I think I saw their Ultrasonic 70mm splicer up for sale on eBay though.

They had a different dubber than what I was used to seeing visible in the booth photo I saw. It looked like a hybrid Westrex unit as the head cluster was on the right hand side
Is that what you have at the Kansas City extreme? Some one said it might be a cinema products unit?

I work for Regal at the present and we asked the hard question of everone in Knoxville and to date Regal has not filed and are working hard not to. Unfortunatly the good old rumor mill has killed off and burried more people and companies than ever were killed in every war.

There is a story behind Edwards building in Ontario Mills. It is big business Vs the family company.

52 screens that sit across the lot from one another with an existing Pacific 10 just down the road! This has undoubtedly been a drain on Edwards, but if you want the full, facinating story, email me off forum.
