A number of years ago I got my hands on a bunch of old mainframes that were being junked. These overbuilt monsters had enormous banks of soda-can sized electrolytic capacitors in the power supplies. I stripped all of them out, and wired them all together -- 36 total, I think -- in parallel to make a 1.2F capacitor.

Never got the nerve to try it out though.
