Author Topic: Splicer Repair Tom Kroening Expert Film Handler Posts: 214 From: Janesville, WI USA Registered: Oct 1999 posted 08-04-2003 02:42 AM                     Its hard to imagine how someone can not know how to put together a splicer once you've taken it apart. Randy, if you come across that problem again you should have that projectionist removed because it doesn't get any easier than that. As far as blade alignment it seems to be a hit-or-miss kind of thing. I just replaced both blades on one of my neumades but of course the soft metal thumb screws broke right off instead of coming out so I had to drill them out. To realign the blades i just kept the handle off and push down on the splicer with some film in it, then slide the blade holders in/out until you have them in the right place. Something neumade really needs to do is make a "bulletproof" version of their splicer. Its rediculous how easy it is to strip one of those soft screws or how brittle the handle is should someone drop it. Of course its better for them because we then need replacement parts!  |  IP: Logged Matthew Bailey Master Film Handler Posts: 461 From: Port Arthur,TX Registered: Sep 2000 posted 08-04-2003 10:57 AM                     Just thought of something while reading this. To deal with platter thrown splicers, why not make a splicer shelf that attaches to the platter,one per deck? With my AW3,all i have to do is remove the front two bolts on each return arm & lossen their rear bolts. Then I slide the part of the shelf between the return arm & deck support ,align the slots of it then reinstall the front bolts, then tighten the rear bolts. The shelf consists of a upside down U shaped piece shaped piece which fits over the front deck support. The shelf is a squared paddle shape piece of metal which the narrow part is bent up then towards the direction of the deck motor which is attached to the U shaped piece. The return arm bolts-four-can be loosened & the shelf removed if the LED & photocell assembly need servicing. Will try to post a drawing of it later.  |  IP: Logged
