Joe,

On my two V5 MI (with fast rewind) I MUST change belts every 10 months. I've noted that after exactly 10 months I have trouble with belts. 10 months, 10 days more, 10 days less...
Cinemeccanica's head technician... eheh!!

You should know Cinemeccanica's florence head technician!!!

I had ghosting problem one day but the belt was already broken and ghosting was annoying.

Joe you mentioned travel ghosting
That is a simptom of the belts stretching.
You either retime the red dots or replace the belts.
My simple rule whne you change the lamp (at 2000hrs) replace all the belts. The belts are cheap

I agree, but the belts are not mine to change. That would be the resposibility of Colorado Cinema Holdings LLC Bowles Crossing 12 Theaters (theater company names just DO NOT get any better or more creative than that), a place I have never been affiliated with. Not directly, anyway. That said, it is still probably one of the best places in town to catch a movie nowadays.

The belts cost us UKP£6 (about US$10 I guess) each. If you stretch the change interval beyond 2,000 hours the projectors won't blow up or anything, but my experience has been that frequent changes helps to improve picture stability a lot. Given that the extra expense is so small, it seems to me to be worth it.

Phillips sold the Norelco Projector line to Kinoton many years ago.

I had only mentioned the AA-2/V8 comparison for the purpose of explanation. Sadly, there are several things that were actually better 40 years ago, and the AA-2 is one of them. They were too expensive to continue making, so production halted (I think) in the late 1960's.

Anyone care to guess what an AA-2 would cost today if they were still in production? There would be all kinds of variables to consider of course, but assuming they had never gone out of production and consistently sold about 250-300 per year, I'd guess they'd cost about US$22,000.

That's around the quote I got for a new Vic 8 35/70, $22-23,000 US.

So, which is today's best projector for a screen 85' wide? The PK60D?

I think the price US $22.000 for a DP70 is far too low. That´s
the price I´ll have to pay for a Vic 5 in Sweden. I´ve seen a
figure for it, but I can´t remember where. I think it was at least
twice the price. I´m sure Mark Gulbrandsen or Thomas Hauerslev
knows the price of a Rolls these days?
