Joe Beres said: "When I suggested a calling card of sorts, my main concern was that Film-Tech was being represented in a way that Brad and Joe were aware of and satisfied with."

I agree that having a "standard printable page" is probably a better idea than a randomly selected "favorite page". Otherwise, there would be quite a few "Joke-A-Thon" pages sent out .

Hey Brad,
I know a couple local store owners that do cheap screen printing on T-Shirts and I'll check around to get prices if you want...that way everyone could buy them and you could put the profit into the site instead of just taking it out of your pocket. Maybe we can have ppl from all over check out prices that way we can get the most for our $$$. I'll put in for 2 T-Shirts

Just a stupid idea....although it does seem like alot of ppl will buy at least one. Joe could even do the design, he could be famous. His designs displayed all over the country!

That picture would only scare kids and stop the crops from growing!

A bright sticker inside of the film can (the size of a nickel or business card size) would to the trick to get the word out.

Aaaaaahhhh! Good God that is an ugly ass pic! Definitely my least favorite. How this pic came about: I was messin' around with Brad's camera one day when he wasn't lookin'. Shortly after this moment (or perhaps before, I dunno) I apparently took Dwayne Caldwell's picture. That went on to become his member pic. I have no memory of these events. I must have been high on Diet Coke.

Anyway I am already famous. Just ask anyone who knows me. I'll bet that they know who I am!

Brad - How did you enable HTML just for your one post?

I like the idea of stickers, but they should be about 4" x 3/4" long and could be used to tape down the end of the print when it's shipped out. (Maybe a 2nd sticker could be applied to the leader right next to the cut when the film is built up.) They'd get noticed much more on the film than in the cans.

I am the administrator. I have html rights. <evil laugh> If you recall, I asked you about that mysterious self-pic the next day and you said you did not realize you had taken a picture. You did at the time remember taking Dwayne's pic.

Stickers are a possibility. I'm still thinking a printable page is probably going to be the easiest though. Let's see what everyone comes up with.

I would like a page with perhaps four (each a quarter page) postcard type ads for the website. each would have a Film-Tech logo, the url and perhaps a snappy description af the website. we could print them, cut them into quarters and then put them in shipping cans and hand them out to other film handlers.

Brad & Joe: I know you guys know your way around a computer, but if you need any help with this, I have a lot of pagemaker experience. I could help put something together and make a pdf file for downloading pleasure. Just let me know if I can be of service.

Brad-

I'm sure that I remembered at the time, but I've done so much Diet Coke since then that the evil Aspertame has ruined my brain.

Thanks for the offer, Joe. I'm pretty good at HTML (I don't even know what Pagemaker is... I assume that's Adobe's HTML program or something). I've got QuarkXPress which may be what Pagemaker is like if it is a layout program. QuarkXPress is supposed to be phiggidy phat but I haven't figured it out yet. Both Brad and I can print to PDF (meaning saving any files we create as a PDF file instead of sending them to the printer... just select "PDF" from the Chooser instead of your printer. When you are done creating PDF files just choose the printer again. That's what I like about Macs... you can have 90 million printers connected to one machine and print to any of them individually thanks to the Chooser.)

Spread the word? It seems the word is indeed being spread. I refer to an obscure article in a little known publication by a film manufacturer. http://www.kodak.com/US/en/motion/newsletters/notes/spring2001/filmtech.shtml

Indeed, this site is a most excellent source of help and general information. Congratulations Brad, and thank you.

Before you plaster the shipping cans with stickers saying "Protected with Film Guard" I do have what may seem a stupid question. What might be the legal ramifications of applying Film Guard to a print without permission of the owner of the print? Don't get me wrong, I use Film Guard on my "own" prints and it's fantastic. It's just with lawyers who sue anybody for anything where does the poor guy in the booth stand if he applies Film Guard and the print owner doesn't approve?

Joe,
pagemaker is the adobe page layout program and the main competitor of quark. i know both fairly well, but i actually prefer pagemaker. anyway, i've got a ton of design experience. so if ever i can be of any assistance, i'd be happy to help.

by the way, you can have a multitude of printers connected to a pc and choose an individual printer through the printer control panel. it works in a similar fashion to the mac chooser.

Plastering shipping cans with anything having to do with a specific print is foolish. Once the film plays a theater or two, another print will go in those cans, and then another after that.

As far as the legal aspect, if the print makes it back in good condition, regardless of how the projectionists handled it, the studio doesn't have much to say and should be happy. You don't see studios billing theaters when their projectors leak oil all over the print. You don't see studios billing theaters that break the prints down at random places within the film, and not the changeover points themselves. You don't see studios billing theaters for using or leaving their cue tape on the prints. You don't see studios billing theaters that chop off frames at the leaders. It just goes on and on. The situation will never come up based upon such events and besides, FilmGuard doesn't damage the film. If anything, the studios should be billing the theaters that scratch their prints and don't use film cleaners.

Joe-

As I mentioned I've never used Pagemaker, but I've got to assume that it is at least easier to use than QuarkXPress 4. Do they have QuarkXPress for Windows? Any quick tips for a newbie on how to set up simple layouts? I find the program extremely difficult to work with... it seems like it was designed for OS 7.

Welcome to the forum, Jon.

Unfortunately, it happens in Afghanistan, under Taliban rule.
