I can't say that I would agree with you on that one, Mark. I think you will find that the Countryman mics were chosen because they are relatively robust and inexpensive. (They were after all designed to clip on your lapel.) A set of true condenser analyser mics will set you back at least $10,000 and have to be handled with kid gloves. They wouldn't last 5 minutes being carted around from cinema to cinema.

The concept that these mics were chosen because they represent the closest thing to a mic element in free air sounds like one of those pieces of folklore (presumably originating at THX) to make people feel good about using cheap mics on an expensive analyser. (No disrespect intended to Mark or THX).

Yes, I have seen those neat little telescopic stands. Does anyone know who makes them?
