To get my question answered, I talked with Jack Connor at the Carmike 8 here in town. He's got the new reel and said New Line also included a completely new set of DTS discs for the print (both an "a" disc and a "b" disc). So, I'll have to get one of my friends to cart my butt down there to check it out (my car is wrecked and the insurance company is dragging their feet on getting me into a rental unit).

I received a whole print as well, but not a new one.

I was thrown by the false title "Changing Seasons" it said LOTR on the cans but the reels and DTS cds said "Changing Seasons" and confused the hell out of everyone. This was meant to deter theft but it resulted in the print running in analog for a couple days until we heard about their ingenious loss prevention. I don't think this was necessary because it would only fool people once the print was built and the correctly labeled cans were put away, and not too many prints get snatched off my platters.

Ran it last night and I noticed that R9 all the colors were a bit blueish in tint compared to the other 8 reels. Also my SRD was tracking around 4 to 5 on the first eight and as soon at hit R9 it dropped to 1 to 1.5. I will be working at another theatre that has LOTR and I will see if the same holds true there.

New reel for LOTR - anytime changes are made, it is up to the studio to order them. That decision is completely up to them. And in this case - yes, we did do discs with the additional footage. If anyone needs them, call your film distribuator and request them. If you cannot get them, send me an email and I'll help.

Actually, Monsters, Inc. is a weird case.
Disc A has reels 1 through 5 of "Monsters, INC. (w/fils 20msdel) 65488". The new Disc B has reel "13" of "Monsters Inc, Alt R5 (w/fils - 20msdel - 65488)" [sic; parens and "Inc" casing are as I've typed them], as well as the trailers (reel "14"). I assume For The Birds is treated as a trailer, but I'm frankly rather confused about that.

I assume the original Disc B had only trailers. It might seem odd, but R1-R5 are 605mb, and the trailers are 162mb, so it makes a certain sense, though I don't know why reels 4 and 5 wouldn't have been put on the 2nd disc and the trailers on both as usual...

QUESTION: Does anyone still have a print of Monsters, Inc kicking around? If so, could you send me private email, there's something I'm curious about.
