Registered: Apr 2001 posted 07-15-2002 11:21 AM                     I'd agree that maybe the Vic 4 is pushing your luck a little if you are relying on it alone. They can and probably will run for many years but...... Some of the gate parts are Vic 5 compatible, put them side by side and they are identical. I seem to recall swapping one over complete. The Vic 4, 5 & 8 are all available with 6000' spool arms and spool boxes. The Minema Cinema, now closed, had a pair of Vic 4's with 6000' spool boxes. As for the Vic 8 being noisy, all projectors can be, so in that respect its no worse than any other. The four I have, two RK60 & two Vic 8 proper, are very quiet and steady. One is hard to hear over the lamp house fan. I'll go and take a look at this Vic 8 / RK60 and see how horrific it'll be to lug around. I'll be able to count on extra hands for the rare occasions I do need to move it, so weight shouldn't be too big a deal. Once I've looked at this I'll be in a better position to decide about the Westrex (the age and state of the lamphouse / rectifier with the Vic 8 will be a factor in this too). They've given me good service for the last 6 yrs. They are 30 yrs old. I also run 4 Victoria IVs that were installed new in my city(not my current building) in 1973 in a twin house. They also give me good service but as Pete Naples says they like to put out a little oil. They always have.
