Author Topic: Focussing Laser Subtitling Frank Angel Film God Posts: 5305 From: Brooklyn NY USA Registered: Dec 1999 posted 12-23-2002 05:44 PM                        My experience with laser subtitling has been that, yes, they are slightly out of focus when you get a perfectly sharp image focus, but not THAT far off that most viewers would complain. Then again, it could be that the optical systems in certain setups (the theatre where we run a lot of foreign titles has a smallish screen) may have a greater depth-of-field than others. Perhaps in my situation the optical system allows for better overall focus and the very slight difference between the emulsion layer and the subtitles doesn't result in as obvious a focus issue as in other setups. How severe is the focus problem? I mean, they are still readable, no? Have patrons complained? If not, I would think it may be a condition that may not hurt presentation for the ordinary patron (of course if you are perfectionist like most of us here, it WILL drive you crazy -- demand free medication from your employer).
