The Eprad/Strong CPA-10 can also stop a film before it tails out on a cue.

Bump.

I have the opposite problem described above--I want to _prevent_ DTS from pulsing into non-sync.

In my screening room, I am using a DTS 6D and CP65. I have no automation. At the end of the last reel of a DTS show, the 6D will pulse the processor into non-sync. I don't like this, because I would rather fade the music up gradually by hand than have the processor switch into non-sync abruptly. I would rather have the DTS box fault to format 05, which would be fine in my case because the inactive projector would be selected at show end (changeover setup). It would also be fine if it just stayed in format 10. The format doesn't matter, as long as it plays silence and gives me a few seconds to walk over to the processor, turn the fader down to "0", switch to non-sync, and then gradually turn the fader back up to "7".

I suppose that I could make up my own DB25 cable and just leave out the non-sync pin, but is there a simpler way to achieve this?

Yes there is. Simply buy a regular DB25 cable and pull that pin out of it with a pair of needlenose pliers. No need to waste the time making up your own cable, silly! [Razz]

(You could always use that pulse to trigger the remote fader, which would be preset to 0.)

Ooh...clever idea about triggering the remote fader.

It seems like "pulse to non-sync at show end" really should be a jumper setting (or otherwise configurable), though, since it isn't necessarily desirable for every user.

Settings are hard. Much better to publish a clear specification for what the box does and let you do your configuration externally. It keeps the manufacturer's job simple and straightforward. (Personally, I'd rather use a small breakout box than have special custom cables running around, but this is a style question.)

Not that it directly relates here, but this is easily done on the CP650. Simply removing the NS jumper (which allows pulsing either SK7 or SK8) should prevent the DTS unit from engaging any NonSync.

quote: Karen Hultgren
The logic board wtih components will block the pulse to go back to analog at the show end. You will still need to tell automation to go to NONSYNC at show end (true for the DTS-6, 2-drive player; the DTS-6D, 3-drive player, does this automatically).
This does not seem to be the case on the original DTS-6. I have a new D715 and a CP650. When the print tails out at the end of the feature, the loss of time code causes the fallback pulse to drop back into analog (Format 04/05). If I open W5 jumper, the fallback pulse is disabled, but not having a fallback isn't necessarily desired either.

Is it expected that the DTS-6 will pulse the processor to 'fallback' at the show end? Is there perhaps a firmware upgrade that I'm missing?

Scott... unless I'm mistaken, the CP-65 fades-in the non-sync when that format is selected, it's just a very fast fade (to prevent clicks). I believe Sam Chavez had a modification to slow that fade-in rate to something more tolerable for a continuous music feed. The mod changes the RC components on one of the cards, but I don't recall which ones... or which card.

Maybe this will jog someone's memory.

Either the CP65 has the fastest fade in I've ever heard, or it just pops on.

in our setup, when the douser closes the cp65 is pulsed to non-sync and muted. but not before there's a momentary burst of music. it's a little awkward, and we should get it changed.

AHA! That's it! It was the mute fade rate that can be slowed.
