The IEC input filter is needed because the original power supply casing has this built in to it. The assembly also provides alot of extra line filtering(comming in and going out!) if you buy a decent one. Although switchers have higher noise immunity than brute force DC supplies, and it could probably be left out my personal feeling is that you can never have ENOUGH filtering of the AC line in a booth. To mount it you have to remove the right hand end panel, and drill mounting holes for the supply. Use 1/2" standoffs to mount it This is a standard, industry wide PCB style, so if the replacement supply ever fails then any equivelent power supply will also bolt right in place. The original DC connection cable was utilized. I soldered it to the output of the supply and left the original Molex to plug it into the backplane. Ya can Molex it at both ends if ya want to....but personally I stay away from as many DC plugs as possible....there's been way too many falures of the in line Molex connectors in the last 20 years...mainly from them not being able to handle the current flow. Anyone wanting to do this mod let me know and I can supply more info such as bolt hole layout, and the proper IEC input filter. This type of unit is VERY common in electronic items produced today. The make is Schaffner and the model is FN-323-10 05. I think I only pay 3 bucks for these. Mark  |  IP: Logged
