O'Shea Film God Posts: 3977 From: Midland Ontario Canada (where Panavision & IMAX lenses come from) Registered: Jun 2002 posted 02-16-2003 11:06 PM                        Jack is saying that since the arm attactched to the variac will prevent the carriage from rising past a height (the current top of travel) since the variac itself can only rotate so far before stopping. This however, could be taken care of by attatching the arm to the carriage in a long slot and attatching a spring to the arm in the slot. Normally the arm would ride, with the carriage, at the top of the slot on the carriage. But when the carriage is pulled higher, the arm would slide down the slot (stretching the light spring). This way, you could use the same variac and arm and still have the extra travel. Of course this would only be better than adding an additional pair of rollers to the whole assembly, if you could get an extra half of the current travel out of it.  |  IP: Logged Brad Miller Administrator Posts: 17775 From: Plano, TX (36.2 miles NW of Rockwall) Registered: May 99 posted 02-16-2003 11:12 PM                     Ok, then I did understand him. (See my post above.) It can be easily worked around if Strong ever cares to. BTW, Christie makes a retrofit kit to fix all of the issues with the Strong design.
