BTW, you owe me an answer on that other thing.  |  IP: Logged John Eickhof Jedi Master Film Handler Posts: 588 From: Wendell, ID USA Registered: Jan 2000 posted 02-10-2013 06:53 PM                        Actually, the triac board was used on the early units with a single scr (no replacement available anymore) The early boards failed due to overloading the single scr by trying to run a 1kw lamp. The later units had the 'dual' scr board that used two 35 amp scrs in parallel, thus sharing the load better. I can't recall the number, but any 'press fit' 35 A 150+ volt scr will work, the gate voltage is around 6-8 volts and can be adjusted by the range pot on the control board. Basically, the control board is just a fancy gate voltage source that supplies the gate voltage to the scrs thus regulating the current flow. Without it, the power supply will run at maximum and even current exceeding the diodes and will eventually self destruct. Orc was notorious for 'overbuilding' their equipment and a simple gate voltage supply would easily control the scrs! Good luck.
