Just a reminder about Rick Shamel's excellent videos of nitrate film burning: one of a small roll, one of "loose" film, one showing it still burns under water. They're in the "Videos" section of Film-Tech:

Hi Stephen and Leo,

When I started at the NFT it was the day after MOMI shut. It had become NFT 3 then and was fitted with 2 x Vic 8's. The DP 70's were in the corner of the box where they stayed for many months until they were moved. NFT 1 & 2 still had their nitrate license but NFT 3 never had one to my knowledge. None of them were set up permamently for nitrate projection as a matter of routine, they were only reassembled when the nitrate festival I spoke of was booked into 1 & 2. Most of the MOMI projectionists were made redundant but a couple stayed on to work as casuals for the NFT, Peter Bell and Bill Bates. Both very nice chaps who I worked with a lot. The older NFT staff are all still there but they've had a few changes in the last 2 years of which I was one.

To add, when I left 2 years ago they no longer had 3D in NFT 2 because the screen was changed to a perlux but could do it in NFT 3 and of course 70mm in NFT 1 and 3 in DTS or mag.

I'm still in touch with some of the guys I used to work with there as they were a good bunch.

Stephen Herbert was my boss - he left in the mid-90s I think, and was replaced by Richard Boyd. The people I worked with were mainly Russell Soards, Dave Young and Sue Yeo - dunno if any of them are still there.

I eventually left to go to university and be an archivist, but still used to see Dave in the Hole in the Wall (pub under Waterloo station) on odd visits to London for several years afterwards. I've popped in there a few times in the last 2-3 years on the offchance but have never seen him since the closure of MOMI, which I fear he didn't survive...
