Not that I am aware of. Even the links on the Strong Website to info about the Apogee are dead links. Perhaps they realize they have a ways to go with it.

Ooh...it has an intergrated [sic] main frame. Is this the first significantly different Simplex since about 1949?

Perhaps we should wait for a Century Perigee Projector which, by definition, would be more down to earth! [Big Grin]

Not to mention the quality control sucks. We put 5 Simplex Millenniums in last April in another location and 2 of them had a 15v changeover on them. Not great to run 110 through them. 2 others did not have the hour meter hooked up, and the douser had to be adjusted on 2 as well or it would not open. One of them also leaked immediately (famous with Simplex)

Of the 2 Apogees I recently put in, 1 of the hour meters was not connected, and 1 douser also needed adjusted. And they forgot to ship the flywheels for the sound head with either unit.

While those are relatively minor things, it still shows poor quality control. Just like our presentation, the little things make all the difference.

The one positive on threading is that they have a very good diagram stuck to the side of the projector, so there is really no excuse for threading it wrong through the sound head. Even if it is the most ridiculous threading route.

If this is now in full production why is the documentation on their website so spotty?

So BOTH DTS and SR-D are incorporated in the sound section (I guess we can;t call it a soundhead anymore). What about SDDS? Or has the industry just given up on that format? I wonder if they have designed it so a mag penthouse would easily sit on top, along with a Kelmar cleaning unit. Now wouldn't it be great if a projector manufacture integrated a film cleaner right in the projector....make clean film as important a priority as steady film.

There is no basement reader for SDDS. Since one of the tracks is 17 frames behind the image, and the system needs a certain time offset for processing, a basement reader is not possible. Just like there can be no DTS timecoder reader in the basement. Also, the SDDS reader would be too big as it reads on both sides of the film.

Really? Why is that? Is it because of the offset? Or is it just too cramped to put it in with the analog and SRD readers? Although it seems to me they would need to do is to extending the analog LEDs to read both the analog tracks and DTS track as well. You wouldn't need an separate DTS reader in the soundhead. With the DTS code illuminated by the LEDs, all that would be needed would be a solar cell with three elements in it to read left, right and DTS code tracks.
