The most successful "new" film formats have been based on improving existing formats without major changes to the equipment or industry infrastructure. CinemaScope is a perfect example of an innovative new format building on a well-established existing format. I wrote an article about CinemaScope in issue H-50-41 of Kodak's "Film Notes for Reel People":
