I saw everything at the tradeshow in one hour and was bored by the end of the second hour. We did get to spend some time chatting with people about Cinematour and Film-Tech on the tradeshow floor, however, and I think that was worthwhile. Could probably be sponsered quite easily. Manny, yes, its a tidbit of information in the sea of information that was exchanged at the show. And yes, lossless encode/decode is something else to behold, quite easy to discern from the 4 to 1 they presently use and ultra easy to discern fomr the 12 to 1 that SRD uses. Its just as easy to discern the difference as are standard red book CD's vs. 96khz/24 bit recordings on a good playback system. This is the sort of stuff that needs to happen to push the industry envelope and spur other manufacturers into making euipment that is at least the equal. Also developments like this will also further "B chain" development and in other areas. So yes, its a very positive thing. Now off to brunch ! Lauderdale, FL, USA Registered: Jun 2001 posted 03-28-2004 12:28 PM                     Platinum Ears while most of my clients have Tin ears Seriously I have heard both tracks many times in Disney Studio maintained venues in L.A. The difference was noticeable with some elements not being "crushed" by compression. Of course many venues will "compress" this audio with noisy HVAC and rustling popcorn bags. I work the other side of the fence doing two three mix jobs a year, especially since I am not personally building scores of cinemas a year as in the past. Optical does sound great on a Woody Allen film since even his digital tracks are generally mono....like the classic situation that comedy best plays out in long shot. I did expect more from the trade show, but I don't think it was a waste of time either. I really enjoyed talking with a lot of the vendors, who suprisingly took the time to answer all of my questions even though I clearly wasn't building a theatre or anything. I enjoyed seeing the Christie X35 first hand, since I have read so much about it, as well as the new sound processors (650 and XD10). Another highlight that I really liked was the Digital LCD/Plasma menu boards at the Coke booth. However, like Adam said, the most fun part of this trip was the time spent off the floor and with friends. As for Mark's suggestion about a Film-Tech/Cinema Tour booth, I'd be happy to help out with that in any way I could.  |  IP: Logged Richard Fowler Film God Posts: 2392 From: Ft.
