SAY! I've got a GREAT IDEA that would solve this problem FOR SURE!
Brandon and everyone should go back to the old thread, which I have conveniently placed a link to here, and re-read these parts:
The omnipetent Brad Miller begins:
quote: Although this is probably not his problem, it could be that his screens have fixed masking at 2:1 and the lamp was tightly focused down on the scope format, creating dark sides on flat films.
To which Brandon replied:
quote: Brandon Lokesak We have no side masking
And then Brad asked:
quote: do you have any top or bottom masking???
And then Brandon chimed back:
quote: In responce to the top and bottom masking question there is no masking.
Even Carl Martin tried to shed some light on the subject:
quote: it sounds like the picture is as good as it's going to be unless you get movable masking. with a shorter lens you could fill the screen side-to-side, but you'd be cropping the top/bottom (some people might prefer that alternative). there's a good chance you're cropping the sides of your scope image as well. what are the dimensions of the visible screen?
Then I, with my uncontested wit, recounting another theater added:
quote: The dark sides for flat were indeed caused by the apeture plate, but it was cut propery for flat. It was caused by -- surprise -- too wide of a screen with no masking.
That was on May 16th, and the final post being in that thread on May 17th. Then more than a month later, on June 24th, Brandon had the audacity to start THIS thread, stating:
quote: I know I posted this before but i never really got an answer and I messed around alittle bit more and got some new results...I filed the plate but they are still there however...
And what happened when he filed the plate? Did it expose more of the picture? No, because...
quote: Brandon Lokesak When I filed the apature i took only a little bit off and u could see a faint line from the soundbar...
So even though there has been discussion regarding his screen dimensions and the possibility of it being a fixed 2:1 screen, he has not answered that all-important question, and we still have the silly bastard taking apart his lamphouse, whipping out test films he doesn't have and re-aligning mirrors.
My guess? It's a 2:1 screen. Crop, or live with the bars. Or get masking like a REAL theater.
Jinkies, I think I've solved the mystery! ZOINKS!

Sam, I will not entertain your rude comments here. If you had read the end of my post, or the previous thread, you would have seen that I DID give the suggestion I was blatantly, albeit sarcastically making reference to.
You must have been really bored between those four hours from when you initially posted, to when you added that whole other paragraph below the to have so elloquently fashioned your insults.
I'll take my pick of all of the above, package them up nicely, dust it with some powdered sugar, tie a bow around it, and send it back your way, you overflowing mound of quivering love-pudding!
So, Brandon, have you measured that screen yet? Only trying to help...

Instead of being the smart ass you are Thomas and trying to show everybody how great your film tech enspired ego is why don't you offer some suggestions that may help the guy or better yet shut the hell up. So what if he doesn't do things right, or in the right order, doesn't mean he wont learn from his mistakes. He came to Film Tech for help and you should be tolerant of his actions and do your best to give help or at least shut up and let the reel experts help.
Yes Sam, Thomas' detailed (and a bit sarcastic) reply above may not have been as "nice" or "happy" as you would like to read, but he does have a good point in that the people here cannot help if enough information is not given. Also, if the assistance offered by the guys here is ignored, then what good is it? Finally, since Brandon is having such problems with this, his technician really needs to be brought into the equation. Odds are he will end up doing more damage by jacking around with things since he did not follow instruction the first time it was given. Remember, Brandon is not setting up a projector of his own at home for a hobby. He is working a job.
Regardless, you are the one who has broke policy on this thread. If FT is not "happy" enough for you, I suggest you visit other sites on the internet rather than complain here.
