Yea, I would certainly agree on those reflectors. They are huge and the number of them that could be coated at once would be very limited indeed. For those lamphouses you would have also had to match both the other mirros sets as well as both heat filters. What ever you did sure workled well as the lamps at M.A.L. sure match very well.

The other interesating thing he mentioned was that he could easily come up with a metal reflector that could do exactly the same thing the Canadian conversion was accomplishing but at alot lower price.
So why hasn't he, if it's so easy and at a competitive price?

Now if you're going to identify the existing conversion by a country, at least call it Quebecian. [Smile]

"So why hasn't he, if it's so easy and at a competitive price?"

Its not their sort of buisness to offer lamphouse conversion kits, they are an optical house delivering custom parts to other vendors. Of course you could have Optiform do this and you could market it too. The Quebecians could have Optiform make the reflector if they wanted to.... but then again they are Quebecians and think differently than most others on the planet(IMHO).

Then why was the replacement I installed three weeks ago in an Optiform Box?

the Strong products are generally cursed with the inability to focus a uniformly flat field across the screen. I invariably wind up with hot spots that I can not coax out.
Yah, well you should try getting even light out of an ORC 4500; even after hours and using the Align-O-Tron, the thing still puts out hotspots and uneven light. Funny thing is, no one seems to notice it when the picture is one, cept me. And I can't even look at the screen without film without wretching.

Don't have that problem with Strong Super Lumen-X, well at least not to that same degree....I am used to getting super even light across the entire screen with my Peerless Carbon Arc, souped up to burn 80amps. I don't quite understand why xenon arcs can't be just as even. Same principal, no?....reflector, plasma in the arc gap focused on the aperture. Why the big difference with xenons?

The carbon-based life form emits light primarily from the positive core; a point source pretty much. Not a ball of plasma. Optics are always easier with point sources.

Can the Super 80 run 5k or 6k watt xenons? Would it take a few modifications?

The Super-80 only differs in its Blower from the Ultra-80 (and the Ultra-80 comes with a heat filter whereas the Super-80 it is an option).

A 5-7KW lamp will FIT the Super-80...it is the cooling that is in question. You better have plenty of it on the exhaust stack because you will have about half the intake blower as the Ultra-80. Furthermore, you should be running with a heat filter when you are in the upper lamp ranges...I generally go to heat filters at 4K and above.
