I had to say something. Iv used Kinaton, SPECO and Stopng platters and Strong are the worst Iv used. Best platter is no platter at all. I love running spool 2 spool lol, not for full lenth movies though. It's been talked about before time and time again. I personally love the platter. That is what's called a 'wrap detector' These gizmos do work real well - almost too well since I have them set at hair-trigger sensitivity. Plus, if you are having wrap problems and you got microswitch brains .. change out the switches.. True, I'd die and go to heaven with Christie AW3R platters, but I got blessed with babysitting 32 of these STRONG A(P)-3 units. And I do have to agree with GORD - not the best, but if you take care of these things, they'll take care of you. In all the 5 yrs that I'm the theatre tekkie dude for this small company I work for, I NEVER, NEVER had an serious issue with any of these STRONG platters. Okey, brushes goes out on the motors..change them out..they're easy to get and to do the task. Microswitches go out...the same-easy to get and to change out. The only time i've had a problem with them is when some idiot decided to try and adjust the motors for me and screwed the timing all to hell. If their timed correctly and your brain microswitches are working properly then they won't wrap. Of course, I always watch the film pull off the brain when I start a movie to make sure the film doesn't jump over one of the outside rollers on the brain. So far that's been the most common cause of a wrap in my booth, and strong makes a bracket to fix this problem, but of course carmike won't let me order it.  |  IP: Logged Monte L Fullmer Film God Posts: 8367 From: Nampa, Idaho, USA Registered: Nov 2004 posted 12-22-2006 01:35 PM                     Only small problem that I have, and it's really my fault for not paying attention at times, is that when I begin to lace through the brain that sometimes I'll accidently get a loop of film around one of the edge brain rollers which causes the payout arm to be in the arm position and you get a nice reverse wrap when the platter takes off - and my wrap alarm goes off, shutting things down within a few minutes of starting. ..and I get so peeved at myself when I do that... -Monte  |  IP: Logged
