Author Topic: Wireless microphone coverage in all auditoriums John Hawkinson Film God Posts: 2273 From: Cambridge, MA, USA Registered: Feb 2002 posted 01-23-2005 02:33 PM                     Err, Mark, for those of you who are in dense urban areas, there's this little thing called intermodulation interference... just because no device is supposed to be emitting in that band, and perhaps even though they are not, signals can mix in all sorts of interesting ways and lead to interference where you wouldn't think it would happen. I am well aware of that having spent time working in Broadcast in Chicago. Yes we are at about 5000' here but that really is of little consequence when it somes to spurious signals...... Spurious signals of that type generated at this altitude behave just about the same at this altitude as they do if generated at lower altidudes. We are also especially susceptible to reflected signals in this area because we have two huge mountain ranges both east and west of the city. The other thing to take into account is that these types of receivers have fairly high selectivity and narrower bandwidth I.F.'s which helps reject any unwanted harminic RF interference that may develop from a combination of signals. Spurious signals developed that way are also for the most part ALOT lower in db than the transmitted signal from the hand held mic. If the receiver did pick up and "garbage" the mute circuit in the receiver wouldn't let them through anyway since its set to trip at much higher RF detection levels...... All Mike can do is get a few of them and see how they work out. If all is well then equipping the rest of the screens with them is a cinch. I can guarantee you that the area where his theatre is located is alot lower denssity of RF than there is here. SLC which has the highest RF densitiy(according to the local FCC guy) in the country is a very good test area for stuff like this!! Mark  |  IP: Logged
