Why is it that only technicians seem to love digital?
Oh yeah, beacause they will still have a job after its implemented.

How can you count pixels on film? Its a photograph not an array of pixels.

Read the notes.

Negative pixels assume 80 resolvable line pairs per millimeter. Positive pixels assume 40 resolvable line pairs per millimeter.

Granted the HDTV specification is outdated, and the 35 mm dimensions are undersized for the 1.37:1 frame, but it's a start.

Here's a graphic depiction of resolution, prepared a few years ago by Schneider Co. Some of the numbers may not be exactly up to date, but it gives a good illustration of how things can vary.
