Author Topic: HELP!: Removing Century Main Drive Gear Randy Bowden Expert Film Handler Posts: 146 From: Portland, OR, USA Registered: Aug 2000 posted 05-26-2008 03:05 PM                     Just so we're clear here, I agree with what you guys are saying, I just think I'm being misunderstood a little, but take a close look at that picture. To me it does not even come close to looking like it's recieved any regular lubrication, it's all very dry looking, so I wonder what the rest of the machine looks like? If the guy is a DIY'er and wants to change out the main drive gear himself, then by all means let him do it, it's not all that hard to do and the part isn't reall all that costly, It just needs to stay lubricated!!!!!!! I just know from experience that the theatres we service seem to turn over people quite regularly, so there can be large gaps in the maintenace, particularly if we are not doing pm's, so if the main drive gear is worn, chances are the shutter gear and intermittent gear will be as well, so it's just as well to change out the entire vertical shaft. I had an 8 screen theatre about a year ago where I had to replace every main drive gear and vertical shaft assy due to lack of lubrication.  |  IP: Logged Sean McKinnon Phenomenal Film Handler Posts: 1712 From: Peabody Massachusetts Registered: Sep 2000 posted 05-26-2008 06:53 PM                        unfortunately the main drive gear on a century is very well hidden and often gets overlooked by theatre personell when they are greasing the gear train. Now iniative is something thatn not many booth kids have in this day and age... most seem almosyt retarted to some degree. Any full time projectionist had best have at least some initiative or he is making his craft and himself look really really bad. In the beginning this is also what has brought many a Union local to the end of the road!
