Author Topic: Perspect-A-Card Frank Angel Film God Posts: 5305 From: Brooklyn NY USA Registered: Dec 1999 posted 10-09-2009 12:43 PM                        Thanks Mark; replacing the caps no big deal, and I can scrounge around the other recording studios and the TV center here for a spectrum analyzer, but if they are still off, is there an easy way to tune them -- adjust pots perhaps? -- or will it be replacing resistor and cap values to try to hit the mark?  |  IP: Logged Dick Prather Master Film Handler Posts: 259 From: Portland, OR, USA Registered: Feb 2002 posted 10-09-2009 01:48 PM                     Frank, the one I rebuilt was a Fairchild unit. Probably the most common. There are four or five other brands in the States. All are simular in circuit design. The filters were accessable after pulling the tops off and melting the wax out from inside the filter cans to get at the coil & caps. I remember finding the caps in the filters being the same value and each coil was wound to the correct frequency. The caps were replaced and all but the 40htz filter were right on. Some cap padding was used to get the 40htz filter close. I did some more circuit mods to bring the trigger tone levels up in the processor and it worked great. Sometimes you can select a capacitor from a group of caps of the same value to get them in just right. Caps can also be paralleled to get things to where they need be if necessary. You may also not be aware that C. Robert Fine... the engineer of the many of the famous Mercury Stereo Recordings of the 1950s was the man behind Perspecta Sound. These recordings were primarily done on a three channel Westrex 35mm mag recorder and many of these recordings have stood the test of time and are still considered to still be some of the finest audio recordings ever done.
