David.

Resist the temptation. DP70's do not need extra V8 starting power. [Wink]

There are decidedly Mopar fans and those that are not. However, those that are not normally have respect for the 426-Hemi, 318 and the Slant-6.

I'm wondering if the un-Mopar fans are biased against their cars that they were in for stylistic reasons.

I certainly appreciate the offerings from all of the Motown-3. I my driving life, I've owned/heavily used a Dodge Polara ('65, 383...a real pretty sounding engine), Chev. Camaro Z-28 ('84), Chev. Corvette Z-51 ('87), Ford Model-A Coupe ('30).

The funny thing is, I've enjoyed the Polara every bit as much as the Corvette but for different reasons. The Model-A was an absolute blast.

Actually most of you may not be aware that Jaguar actually invented the Hemi Head chamber I believe back in the early 50's... not Chrysler Corp. as they like to claim. I was only using "Hemi" as a refrence... sorry to get the good heads on the wrong block! 318 = reliability but no more no less. I myself was never a Chrysler Products fan ever!

Actually Mark it goes all the way back to the teens. Lots of cars before Chrysler.

Steve you are testing me now......and taking me way off topic.

In 1965 I think the Coronet 440 was available with a 426 wedge big block. The Coronet 500 was available with the 426 hemi engine as a special order.

Dodge sure got tricky with all of those number designations for body and engine displacement.

I have loved some of my simpler cars from the big three (with a soft spot for Mopars). I agree with you, I get just as much of a buzz from running my DP70's as I do my Eumig S940.

In the face of global warming, it may be difficult to justify 30-screen multis to save teenage boys the trouble of learning to tell time or read.

If dci presentation consumes more energy than film projection, its universal adoption may melt those ice caps by the third set of the day.

Personally, I am looking forward to high quality digital projection but, as others have suggested, is the current model efficient enough?

A power-hungry dci projector may be more environmentally unsound as film print that services multiple continents and locations.

Why is it that an e-cinema projector with a 350 Watt lamp can match the screen illumination of a 35mm projector with a 2K xenon while its big dci brother needs 3K for the same brightness?

And before I celebrate the end of make-up/break down time, can you load a show on to a dci server while a show is running?

Why are we in such a rush when film projection is not obsolete? The change will and should happen but, as an industry, we should be asking the electronics wizards to come up with a viable model. Would a led screen be better than projection? Could $15K business projectors be developed into $30K cinema machines?

The world economic cricis might have come just in time to give us pause for thought.

Ron? DCI uses bigger lamps then film??

Are you sure..
I have not really considered this in fact.
Technically, DCI should use much less as it does not have the shutter... With digital, all the light gets onto screen and as such, you should get better performance with digital.

Doremi suggests that content loading during playback be avoided because it can cause issues during playback. However, if you have an LMS library server you should be able to download to it any time as far as I am aware. We do not have an LMS at this time. As far as the Doremi, I just hook up the hard drive and start ingesting the content to the server and go home. The next day you just unhook the hard drive and set up the play list. Accumulated time for me is about 15 minutes and most of that is set up and packing the hard drive back in the case it came in.

Even that has been reduced for Real D has now introduced XL light doubleing Z Screen. I believe that's what is called.

But it can take longer than the playing time of the film to load it. If you've got just one film on the screen all week it's not too bad, but try it at a single-screen venue where you're running half a dozen different films during the week, and possibly three or even four different ones during one day. This is something they really do need to speed up.

If you're running two projectors you can have film on screen within a few minutes of a print arriving; this is something you can't yet do with digital.

Yeah, between that and Christie's new "Brilliant3D" 1.2 triple flash projectors coming out of beta, light levels have almost doubled, finally making reasonable light output on a single projectors for 3D something more attainable.

Right now, a 2D lamp and a Film lamp using typical shutters of near 50% efficientcy should be about the same.

James, not all of the light from the lamp goes to the image, despite the lack of shutter. You have not considered that the single light must also be split to its three primary colors before going to the imagers. Furthermore, the more accurate the primary color, the less light you get as filtration only removes light.

I am sorry, I must have misunderstood those earlier posts that talked about the necessity to upgrade the electrical supply, 7K lamps and extra powerful ventilation.

However, are digital installations running on less power than the 35mm gear that they replace?

Steve,
Yes I suppose the 5/6 segment prisms would reduce the light levels a little. But I don't think it was that bad..
I am also considering some of those cheap single chip straight through projector. God they can get a lot of light on screen for such small units. This does indicate any quality real 3 chip system does have a reasonable hit.

In terms of what do you need. Well, if your not planning on doing 3D with a Dolby or RealD system. the mid range Christie 2000ZX and NEC 1600 should do "most" screens (Up to 13meter across from memory) without an issue. They are under 15amp and can run on a single phase no problem. Go to any model up, and you need three phase. (From memory)
