we used to have a foot pedal. i did like having 2 hands free but the pedal was an old design with a column of graphite discs whose resistance varied according to the pressure. problem was, the discs would break and i'd have to replace them with nuts and washers. opening the thing up left carbon dust all over the place and wasted time, and it got to the point about 1/3 of the column was replacement metal and the pedal got very touchy. we kept the same table, a very old neumade i think--too small, really, and retrofitted it with kelmar parts. overall, an improvement.
