To see how much your no-load voltage is by turning on the rectifier while holding the amp/volt switch to the volt position and see how high the meter pegs before bulb ignites.

If your in the 120 plus range, no load is good, but anything below 100 or so is where your problem lies.

How old is that switcher anywhos? Is it a big 'suitcase' shaped one with fans on the one end? There is manufacturer date on the plate on the side of the unit. Plus, if you can give us the last four digits on the model number, that can also tell us on the vintage of the unit.

thx-Monte

not sure if im doing this right, but i held the amp/volt button in while someone else turned on the breaker for the power supply, the meter didn't move at all.

the model number is 61001, with the 8 position switch
don't see a manufacture date on it, but safe to say its pretty damn old

and yes the noise only happens when i push the mode switch to 'man' when the lamp switch is in the on position, or vice versa

Hold the button in while you flip the Mode switch from Auto to Manual. Watch the meter. It should reach 120v + before the igniter tries to fire the lamp.

tried that, it doesn't jump, just goes straight to 25, the lamp fires up instantly, there's no delay or anything

Okey, He's got the OLD one - diode rectifier, 61000 series.

Bet he's got some pretty tired caps in that thing then..

I agree with Tony, It sounds like you are not building enough open circuit voltage. You must hold down the red button below the amp/volt meter when you turn the lamp on (Do not push the manual strike) watch the meter it should jump up to around 150 volts then once the lamp strikes it should drop to around 25. Now if it doesnt jump quickly but slowly goes up and stops and goes up some more then you need to arrange for a repair exchange from your dealer.

Glad to be of help. That is what FT is for and why we all are on here: to help and to be helpful.

Good luck - Monte

Funny though, is the autostrike mechanism in the Christie's IGA15M igniters with that delay relay plugin thingey (which is a carry over plastic sealed device of the Ampernol glass heater tube of the IGA10M igniters)-heater coil goes out and the lamp has to be manually ignited.
