Unfortunately, adding scratches and crap to invoke "film" is a convention to the point of being a cliche in the entertainment world today. TV shows do it all the time for flashbacks and bad documentaries with "re-enacted" footage have scratch loops where you see the same dirt and scratches repeating.

Like the sound of a stylus sliding across a record, scratches and dirt are being sold as the iconic image of film. The only bright side is, in time, digital breakup and stuttering will be the iconic image of digital.
