National Amusements Mt. Vernon Multiplex in Mt. Vernon VA was on the original release. They used to pay me to move the DTS 6 AND the DA10 in each of the northern VA locations so they would be in the auditorium that had the particular digital format...that went on for a while too.

I'm pretty sure that in Littleton Colorado the Mann Southwest Plaza 5 opened Jurassic Park with DTS Lt Rt. Not sure how many screens they had the DTS on. Probably 1. There might be old Denver area newspaper ads that can confirm or deny my memory.

Also the Ontario Cineplex Queensway did not exist in 1993

DTS wasn't in the Odeon in Victoria in 1993 yet. The movie played there in analog at the time.

I think it was the first Jurassic Park film, but one of the trailers before the film's release, Universal had added lights at the Uptown theater here in Washington DC to simulate 'lightning' effects during the trailer.

The lightning effects trailer was for the sequel, Lost World. They synchronized the lights using the same timecode track on the film print used to sync the DTS soundtrack.

IIRC the lightning effects thing was done with a trailer for the JP sequel The Lost World. DTS had some extra stuff that controlled how the strobe lights would flash in sync with the lightning on the screen.

Edit: ha ha, Daniel beat me in posting the correct answer faster.

Corrections/Additions for WASHINGTON STATE:

Lynnwood = ACT III Alderwood Cinemas
Mountlake Terrace = ACT III Mountlake 9

Additions/Notes:
Lynnwood: CINEPLEX ODEON GRAND CINEMAS ALDERWOOD (not sure if JP played here or at ACT III Alderwood)
Seattle: Cineplex Odeon NORTHGATE (where JP played)
Seattle: Cineplex Odeon CITY CENTRE CINEMAS (though this was for Schindler's List)
Seattle: Uptown did not initially play JP, perhaps as a move-over
Seattle: Cineplex Odeon OAK TREE (JP would have been a move over from Northgate)
Tukwila: Cineplex Odeon SOUTHCENTER (JP played here then moved over to Lewis & Clark)
Tacoma: Cineplex Odeon TACOMA MALL TWIN (JP played here. The Tacoma Central DTS installation was for Schindler's List)
Tacoma: Cineplex Odeon TACOMA SOUTH (though neither JP nor Schindler's List played here)
Bellevue: ACT III CROSSROADS: JP opened here in the big house in THX

It would be kind of neat if anyone has newspaper stack ads of Jurassic Park from different cities and posted some of them here. I gave Michael a scan of a Dallas newspaper ad for Jurassic Park, but the ad was from an issue a few weeks after JP was released.

The reason for this would be as such, Cineplex in Canada records all hardware (desk, chairs, lenses, platters, DTS units and such) with a Cineplex Odeon serial number. It is a small sticker that is placed on the hardware, for example, many theatres in the Toronto market that played during the Jurassic Park run are no longer operating. When the theatre closed, these units would frequently be moved.

So, the Queensway replaced Sherway, and the Queensway will look like it was the origin installation as DTS units from DTS Jurassic Park at Sherway were moved. Cineplex/DTS records do not reflect the move, but the unit still exists and it now appears in eyes of Cineplex/DTS that the unit originated from the Queensway.

Most companies have a database of equipment, if something gets moved then you will make the change in the database, but usually you would keep the origin location in there.

I can provide a few corrections in South Florida. The following DID NOT have DTS installed for Jurassic Park:

1) Boca Raton – General Cinema MISSION BAY PLAZA 8 (I was an assistant manager there when DTS was installed for "In the Name of the Father", we didn't play Jurassic Park)

2) Boca Raton – Wometco SHADOWOOD 12 (As an assistant manager across the street at Mission Bay Plaza 8 I was invited to the staff screening of Jurassic Park and it was THX/Dolby A. I went to UA Movies at Town Center later in the week to see it in DTS)

3) Coral Springs – General Cinema CORAL SQUARE 8 (I transferred to this location in 1994 and was there when DTS was installed for "Die Hard with a Vengeance" in 1995)

4) Plantation – General Cinema FOUNTAINS 8 (This location installed DTS for Schindler's List in December 1993. I went there to see the film and get a booth tour the week of the installation.)

The list they gave you seems WAY off as just this small sample shows locations that didn't have DTS until a year or two after Jurassic Park opened.

The Cineplex Beverly Center had but 13 screens in 1993, and DTS was permanently installed in Houses 1 and 2, plus a unit was shared between Houses 8 and 9.

However, as I have mentioned before elsewhere, the Beverly Center was one of the theatres chosen to be a DTS test locations in the months leading up to the June 1993 opening of Jurassic Park. I do remember Mr. Baseball, The Public Eye, Dr. Giggles, Trespass, Matinee, Mad Dog and Glory, and Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story were amongst those Universal titles we ran with DTS during the Fall and Winter of 1992 and the Spring of 1993. Other Universal titles may have been available to test in DTS, but we did have to split product with the GCC Beverly Connection, and I do not remember their having a DTS unit prior to Heart and Souls in August 1993.

In Haarrisburg PA Jurassic Park did not play first run at the Colonial Park 4.

It opened first run at the AMC Colonial Commons 9 which did install an early caddy version of the DTS 6 but I am not sure it was in place for JP.
