F A N T A S T I C ! How beautiful this picture looks in its original panoramic format! And it's great to hear the soundtrack in proper sync, too (as opposed to the Turner TV screenings). This is the best looking TechniScope film I ever saw, and most of today`s Super-35 cinematographers should be ashamed. Enough light, low-speed negative and dye-transfer printing, this made the film look almost 3D except for some wear at the reel ends. Definitely a film that should be rereleased because it`s a totally different experience on DVD and in a theatre.  |  IP: Logged Geoffrey Weiss Film Handler Posts: 68 From: Lexington, KY, USA Registered: May 2001 posted 03-05-2003 10:09 AM                     I'm writing my PhD dissertation on Clint Eastwood--hopefully to get the degree this Spring. I've seen all three spaghettis many times and they're all great! I think "For a Few Dollars More" is my favorite. First, Lee Van Cleef is actually badder than Clint Eastwood (bad as in good) in that film. His first line, "This train'll stop at Tucumcari," is delivered unforgetably. Second, GBU seems to get away from Leone at times, but FFDM is tight and lean throughout. Third, I like Lee Van Cleef so well that I just hate to see him get it at the end of GBU. If you want to share your memories of seeing these films in theatres (or Dirty Harry or any other Eastwood film) and what they meant to you, post here or email me off-list. Who knows? You might make it into the dissertation or the book that will follow from it. I'm also interested in your favorite Eastwood moment. Funny story: One of my friends here at Kentucky is a Taiwanese biologist. When Fistful of Dollars came out in 1966 in Taiwan, he remembers all of his friends wandering around in ponchos, chewing tobacco, and spitting while squinting away. Like most large military bases, Lowry had a theatre. I saw many films there, but only 2 of them stick out in my mind as memorable experiences. One of those was "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly". They ran it for one show only, on a Saturday night. The theatre was packed and everyone was clearly loving the movie. I remember quite well that the print was not in very good shape. (The other film I remember seeing there was Bruce Lee's "Fists Of Fury".) Good news, AMC(the ones that now intercut commercials like gangbusters into classics) has funded a restoration of the 162 minute cut and sprung for the additional dubbing, mixed it in 5.1 and is broadcasting it uncut on May 10th.
