(Which is why I don't work in TV, even though I'd wanted to a while ago. For syndicated stuff, I would delete the bug triggers so our local bug somehow never turned up on my shift. I was talking with one of the traffic people on day, and she told me she went in and deleted a bunch of the automated bug triggers from the formats they used -- to quote her: "It's ridiculous. Matlock had a bug going over every single segment! The original bug was covered up by using some sort of interpolation and then another bug was laid right over it. Most bug insertion is done as a downstream key over the video as the program is broadcast, but if something were to happen to the master recording of something and they had to go to an aircheck, it would have whatever garish logos were on the broadcast. If the BBC had cluttered up the screen with bugs in the 60's and 70's a lot of the "lost" programs they recovered through private collectors would have all sorts of crap all over them. (For those who don't know, the BBC erased/threw out original master tapes and films of many older programs in the 70's.
