I watched "Shawshank" on Blu-ray last night (Netflix rental) and was really impressed. I'd had the disc sitting here for over a week and almost returned it without even watching it. I know I saw "Shawshank" in a theater when it first came out but for some reason it didn't make a big impression then. This seems like one of those films that works very well on home video, maybe better than it did in a theater. Glad I did watch it, and I might have to buy the BD, which seems to be mastered very well. The Old Man And The Sea is the first one that comes to mind that works better on the confines of the TV set. On the big screen it's all sky! And I couldn't even guess at a reason, other than perhaps the studio are afraid if they release the DVD it would get copied and pirated all over India. Perhaps they think this is a way to stall piracy. I guess we can see how well that is working out for them. Lawrence of Arabia? Excuse me but a barely hetero guy mincing and overacting around the Mid East is not classic. Camp, yes. Apparently the camera work is astounding, but have never, and will never see this in 70mm, so have to base my opinion of the DVD.  |  IP: Logged
