Posts: 10973 From: Lawton, OK, USA Registered: Apr 2001 posted 09-15-2004 05:39 PM                     George Lucas may just stubbornly stick to his guns about this revisionism thing and "Star Wars." I think the original versions will surface, but only after a couple possible developments. They may surface once visual effects technology and the current paradigms of movie watching change dramatically -thus making things like the "Star Wars" movies very old-hat. They also may surface whenever the copyright runs out and the movies fall into public domain. I'm not sure how many times a movie studio can renew a copyright on a film. But it will eventually fall into public domain. Aw, who am I kidding? I'll probably be dead by the time that happens.  |  IP: Logged Mark J. Whining? I suppose it would be whining if somebody wanted the original version of "Casablanca" and all you could get was the Ted Turner-era botched color version, too. I just checked the catalog at my day job (where we sell CDs, DVDs and the like) and surprise surprise, it is NOT available on VHS. So GL is out of touch with reality again. And anyway... The people who are complaining desire to watch the ORIGINAL movies, not changed ones, on DVD, because it is a better quality/more convenient medium. To tell those people, "Go find a used copy on Ebay and hope it works" is an insult. If Lucas was really as concerned with quality as he pretends to be, he would want pristine DVD versions available for everyone, including the people who prefer the original versions. He wouldn't want the fans -- the poeple who pay his bills -- having to search for worn-out VHS copies. It is just a scam to sell everyone the altered versions, then sell the same people the originals a year or two from now. I'd bet on it. He knows that if the originals came out first, legions of fans would pass on the altered versions. It may be dead from a production standpoint but it is very much alive in my house so long as my player keeps working. Posts: 12814 From: Annapolis, MD Registered: Dec 1999 posted 09-23-2004 01:01 PM                     Ayup...I too have the original versions of Star Wars - Return of the Jedi on Laserdisc...including the Trilogy Definitive collection (CAV mastered and with cleaned up video that really shows when projected on a large screen). There are some gray market copies of those discs on DVD if you know how to get them...they may have subtitles though and not in the English language. Steve  |  IP: Logged
