Ayakawa Film God Posts: 2738 From: Waipahu, Hawaii, USA Registered: Aug 2002 posted 03-24-2010 05:48 PM                        I picked up the standard edition of THE AFRICAN QUEEN yesterday and watched a couple of scenes last night and was very impressed with what I saw. Hopefully, I will have the time to watch the movie in it's entirety tonight. The few scenes I saw last night was very nice and made me realize the color cinematography was not drab after all. It had definitely had the look of three strip Technicolor and is very sharp. The mono sound was also nice and clear. There was only a 'Making of The THE AFRICAN QUEEN' documentary on the disc and I had no problem with that because it made the movie itself look fantastic. -Claude  |  IP: Logged Jack Theakston Master Film Handler Posts: 411 From: New York, USA Registered: Sep 2007 posted 03-24-2010 08:39 PM                     GWTW had so many different "looks" over the years, though, that it would be difficult for the public to accept what the film originally looked like. Ayakawa Film God Posts: 2738 From: Waipahu, Hawaii, USA Registered: Aug 2002 posted 03-26-2010 04:16 AM                        I just watched THE AFRICAN QUEEN and the one hour documentary about the making of the film tonight and I was very pleased with what I saw. I watched the documentary first and was pleasantly surprised it was brand new and produced in high definition with HD clips from the film. The only clips in SD were vintage clips of the film makers during the time of production. The film restorers at Paramount did a very marvelous job with the film. The only thing I had noticed about the restoration was the slight red/yellow cast of the skin tones at various time during the movie. The image was extremely sharp and had the precise look of three strip technicolor film process. I do not know why after all these years I thought the color photography of THE AFRICAN QUEEN was drab. On the contrary, it was very vivid. The color is so wonderful it is hard to realize THE AFRICAN QUEEN is just about sixty years old. -Claude  |  IP: Logged
