thank you for that explaination. I am still confused about what the hell they are doing.

Are they doing 1 projector per eye? for twice as bright, or a digital cinerama thingy, are they going to try to fill the entire screen with the 2 x 16.9 chips on their side ? or just for hollywood movies and fill part of the screen.

any ideas?

I *Think* what they are doing is stacking two 4k images one above the other to create a 4k width image and then use the additional height to get to the IMAX aspect ratio. The IMAX IP seems to be the alignment procedure to get the two projectors to line up seamlessly.

I assume (and you know what that does) that 3D would be 4 projectors.
