I never would have thought that getting it that way would have been faster than through Film Tech. I was dissapointed. Now that the issue is over, I want to tell you that I wouldn´t have broken confidence. The reasons why I needed the manual were true (and verifiable) and I was not going to sell or lend the manual in any way. I know you guys don´t know me. But I thought there was a certain code of ethics between techs, specially between techs registered here. I was obviously wrong and I am sorry. Why not go "through channels?" It isn't like the manufacturers want to keep information from those that should have it...at least that has not been my findings. Now if Tim needed the latest CP-2000 manual I'd send it to him even though he is not working for a Christie Dealer. I do know that Tim is a qualified tech. I would do the same for Steve but he is a Christie dealer so the point is moot and he has access to everything I do. The main reaosn to get the manual from Christie is because there are software updates done several times a year to the projectors. Christie having theor act togeter much more so than the other "Digital" companies does less software revisions than most manufacturers, however Tim's manual is more than likely very out of date as far as the software section in the manual... unless he too got it off line. Its very important to have a manual that also covers the very latest software version because they can actually completely change a section or add other functions you would not otherwise know nor have a clue about. If your projector does not have the current software version then you very definately should get a tech in to load both the Christie OS and the TI OS for you. Only qualified techs will be able to get the latest software issued to them. I am kinda responsible for that projector. The original manual (that came with the machine) is almost 4000km north of me (inside the pedestal door). It only makes sense to have a copy on my laptop for reference. Specially since none of the operators there speaks a word of english. Do you picture the pickle I´m in? Here´s the scenario as it was when I got involved: I got an email from management in Brazil saying that they heard that the film Hannah Montana (due to open April 27th over there) would not work with the soft version currently installed in the projector. I did some research and it turned out to be true. So, my company decided to send me (waaaaaay cheaper) to do the update, having got the software and (dummy proof) instructions from Christie. I´ll probably be on a plane this time next year. I turned to FT trying to find someone to throw me a freakin´ bone. There´s not much one can do without the necessary tools, I´m sure you´ll agree. Good luck with the software update. Its not hard to do but seems clumsy at first since you use FTP instead of HTTP to upload it into the projector. Sounds like they don't use the projector much down there... might still be set up to play MPEG instead of JPEG 2000. I have one doubt before attempting the software update. Where am I supposed to plug my laptop in to? The Cine IPM2K? Or the 8 port hub inside the pedestal? Shut the server down and just have the projector powered up during the upgrade. The software loads itself and then verifys that the load is good. Then the projector should re-boot by itself. Then bring the server back on line. Failing to do so will result in a bad software load and you'll be dead in the water. I am currently sitting in my hotel room in Rio, hopefully not about to get the "we-can´t-project-Hannah-Montana" call.
