I dunno Scott...would trim a carbon for a reel that only had 30% of its life left?

I'm sure the studio feels that lamps that are run for too long look worse in other areas...including flicker than a new one or one that has 70% of its life left.

So this 70%-life-left bulb would apply to digital projectors as well, eh? Yah, I am sure exhibitors are going to keep changing their $1800 bulbs for every opening just so they can win a $10 Pixar tee-shirt.

Boy, I'd like that list of exhibitors paying $1800.00 for lamps... I'll go after their buisness!

Uh-Huh,

Since when did lamps cost 1800 bucks? I should start buying them from my supplier and then marking them up to that price. I'd be able to buy another additional lamp for each one I sold, and pocket the other half!

When they first came out the CDXL-60 was over $2,000 - and that was my price from my dealer - there were no dealer discounts available (the price is now significantly less)

A lot of people are broadcasting false information that digital bulbs are double the price . . . . . . Does the NEC, Barco or Sony use any special lamps made by the respective manufacturers? (if so how does the pricing stack up compared to "regular" xenon lamps?)

Thanks for all the info.

I was hoping the delivery costs would be less than 35mm.
I guess that was too much to hope for.

Nope. In fact everyone around SLC is using regular film type cinema lamps in their Barco's and NEC's. We are using CXL-4200 at one location in a DP-100. The new Christie M prjector will utilize a special 2kw lamp made specifically for the projector.

Bulb pricing varies by who you get them from. Try your local dealer.

I have personally seen more than one customer who was paying over $3K for a CDXL-60. Not any more!. Louis

While $3K is VERY steep for that lamp...the CDXL-60 is not a cheap lamp...it typically prices out higher than regular 7KW lamps!

When pricing lamps however...it is the Cost/hour that should be the driving force...not the cost/lamp.

That said...if any of you all WANT to pay $3K per 6KW lamp...please let me know in a private email and we'll accommodate! [Wink]

Regardless of what price the bulbs cost, the fact that Pixar wants you to only use bulbs that are practically new in order for presentation to be "perfect" is ludicrous. If they are THAT concerned, maybe they should supply new bulbs along with the prints and hard drives.

And although their Perfect Projection points are obviously aimed at 35mm booths, what's good for the goose is good for the gander -- the bulbs in digital systems should have the same 70%-life-left requirement if they are going to earn "Perfect Projection" gold stars. Bet Pixar isn't hard-peddling THAT to the exhibitors who have already antied up a gobs of cash for digital equipment.
