It spent time on two different screens when it was here.
That makes this one screen #5!!!

Doesn't each manufacturer design their own light engine?

Yes! and all but one manufacturer builds their own formatter boards too. And there are differnet glass formulas for the prisms, mirrors, and so on. Also different coatings used on the prisms and mirrors by each manufacturer. These designs ALL have to be approved by T.I. before they can be produced but in the end what I believe accounts for most of the visual difference is how the integrator mixes the light and then the coatings. Christie's secret aside from a very efficient relfector design is the patented coating they use on the prism and mirrors.

As to the ZX boot up times...they are about 3-5 times longer and unbelievably long on the cool down...again...not temp dependant. The problem is...once the ZX is in a cool down...forget it...you can't restrike...it is worse than an LCD projector. It would rate the ZX's feel is more like running a 300 Baud modem...even with a direct connection.

I had the opportunity today to upgrade a prototype "M" projector's firmware this morning. It was at ver. 1.2.045 and I took it to version 2... BTW: The "M" projector uses the same identical firmware that's used in the ZX so no need to have extra files on your usb stick! I had upgraded a number of ZX projectors a while back and I remember an improvement but it's been a while and I forgot how much improvement it made. Christie hasn't had new Firmware now in over a year.

The improvement in load times for the web interface were staggering going from 15 to 20 seconds a page to just seconds. The slowest was always the Test Pattern tab and there are now double the patterns available... and the load time was about 10 seconds.

Also if you upgrade and still have slow load times or the page wants to re-load each time you change it be sure your web browser is caching the pages!!

Also, If you are servicing the projector and need to get around the 15 min. cool down time... assumming you have an adaquate extractor running... just reset power to the projector. Otherwise just leave the lamp on the whole duration you are servicing.

Mark...the last firmware upgrade for the ZX was to version 2 (previous to that was 1.1)...that came out around August or October, I forget which of 2008. Oddly enough, Christie offers the ability to also downgrade from version 2.0 to 1.1...as I recall it has something to do with 3D.

I'm also quite aware of the power-cycle method of speeding up the cool down...but still VERY stupid...if the unit is cool enough...it is cool enough...no need for a rigid time.

Note, all CP2000-Ms are prototypes at the moment...hopefully, with the upgrades you received, it will now operate correctly and for a long time. I'm waiting for delivery on a CP2000-M myself...I think it will prove to be quite a handy machine...I'd especially like it if they could get the Dolby 3D system in it for some of my small screening rooms...it will have more than enough light.

I recently had to add a new preset to a Barco DP2000...it was blazingly fast to set it up and to have the projector perform some scaling of Standard Def video...no surprises...this was not the case of trying to set a CP2000ZX to do the same thing. For special venue, Barco remains an easier to integrate product.

We'll never agree on software. The BARCIO is nice but I don't find it any more or less difficult to use Christies. I'm for the most part just using the T.I. software to do setps anyway. Set the T.I. system and the TPC or CDP or what ever display you may have automatically update to reflect what changes you've made in T.I.

I think Dolby will eventually have to give in to the "M" for 3-D when there are enough of them in the field. The color wheel could be placed right at the input to the integrator with just a minor change or modification to the integrator casting assembly. A plastic new side cover with a slight bulge in it would accomodate the motor/filter assy.
