Well, you can all bet that LIMAX will be first in line when 4K DLP becomes available... in about a years time according to a Christie Rep I talked to at the Mountain States NATO show today.

REG in BOISE installed a SONY 4k unit in one of their biggest houses..all I know for now..

We just got a Sony 4k projector in a medium theater. Ive only seen 3D on it but so far it looks good. For some reason it takes a few steps to start it up compared to just pressing play on our Christie digital projector. In fact you have to "prepare" the projector about 30 seconds before you press play. Anyone know why?

I saw one "Break down" recently. After it got fixed, the projectionist was unable to rewind the show to play the section that the audience missed during the problem. Does Sony not have basic transport controls on there units? You cant replay a section? Both Dolby and DoReMi can do this.

I havnt seen any ability to control where to start the movie on the Sony projectors. Although our Christie digital projector can be started after the trailers it cant start in the middle of a movie which was a pain a couple monthes ago when we had a brief power outage and the almost full couldn't finish their movie. We had to give passes and just wait for the next show.

Alex - the functionality to start in the middle of a movie is in the software you use to make playlists. I haven't used it in awhile but I believe it's somewhere in the SPL control section. Also, you should be able to add "blank" area to your playlists by just pressing the "+" key while your first actual video item is selected. This will allow you to add all the needed cues to prepare the projector. I've found from the "on" cue it's good to add 30 seconds of blank before actual video is to show. If you put your projectors in standby in-between shows, make that 45 seconds. Sorry for being a bit vague, haven't used the software in a few months - all this is in the manual however.

Anyone know if the AMC chain is completely replacing 35mm with Sony 4k units? I thought I read something about that a while back.

Yea Sean, AMC's should all be getting Sony 4k projectors. Our theater has already started the upgrade. Plus heres an article about the conversion

On the Qube units, you have to log into the web app to do any transport controls other than Play, Pause or Stop. It's kind of irritating, but I understand the reasoning behind it.
