A customer had one explode and do about 20K in damage to an SB at 640 hours. Odd they claim 1000 hours average life on their web site.. that sure is mis-leading and risky! Another location that also uses them (Zion Canyon) runs them to about 1K hours even though an explosion will cost them a reflector and heat filter. I wouldn't bother unless you have a REALLY big screen that is choking for light. If you check the light levels 100-hours in, the margin will grow greatly. The CDXLs have a very slow burn-back as compared to CXLs. The components to make a CDXL I assume are identical to a CXL. Same amount of tungsten, maybe a little more gas, different physical size. I'm sure part of their cost has to do with the R&D combined with "relatively" low volume as compared to other lamps.
