Yep. Security through obscurity never seems to be an idea that works, but I guess some people just keep making the same mistakes over and over again.
Bruce Schneier, author of Applied Cryptography said it best (I'm paraphrasing because I don't have the book in front of me):
"If I had a safe which had two keys - one to lock it and one to unlock it, and I locked my secret document in the safe and buried the safe somewhere in Manhattan, that is not security. If I took that same safe with my secret document in it, and gave it to you, along with an identical safe that you can study yourself, and a schematic on how the safe was constructed, and even gave you the key that I used to lock it, and you STILL can't get the safe open to get my document... THAT is security."
I know there are at least a couple people here that disagree with that, but I find myself laughing at closed source encryption algorithms being broken a lot more then they laugh at open source ones being broken.
