You only have to have just a few spares around to cover the whole Series 2 line. I would assume that Christie-Barco have also done this. If not... oh well.  |  IP: Logged Dave Macaulay Film God Posts: 2321 From: Toronto, Canada Registered: Apr 2001 posted 10-22-2011 08:54 PM                     The Barco B and C series projectors are identical operationally, I'm not sure what they mean by "common platform" though. The main boards are interchangeable - the ICP and input/enigma boards are the heart of the projector. The power supply and motor driver boards may be identical as well. The basic layout is the same. The light engines are different, the lamphouses are different, and obviously the chassis is different. Barco is not alone in claiming "4K upgrade potential" for .98" 2K DMD projectors. This depends on TI producing a 4K DMD close to .98"... and I haven't heard anyone say that's very likely. It is, of course, possible. I have seen 4K on a small screen. 4K is better, yes. Necessary... no. On a large screen 4K produces a much better image particularly for the front rows, but how many people complain about the pixel size with 2K on a big screen? Will there be 4K content commonly available? We'll see. It isn't a big deal with HDD distribution (even if a 2TB drive is needed they aren't cost prohibitive) but quadrupling the dataset size is an issue for direct distribution and that's the future.  |  IP: Logged Olivier Lemaire Expert Film Handler Posts: 118 From: Paris, Ile de France, France Registered: Jan 2010 posted 10-23-2011 04:42 AM                        C/B chassis: same ICP, same LD, same PIB. Same look, same liquid cooling (excepted for the 12C that does not have a cooling system of course), same manufacturer, same software to operate, same backplane to connect external cards (IMB from any manufacturer).
