We try to keep the storage low Victor. At most we will keep 3 features loaded. Maybe 4 or 5 trailers........

Again guys, I know these filmmakers are making the DCP's wrong. With all the different specs out there and what will work with what, I don't have all the answers for these people. That's why I figured Doremi could help.

Pretty much what Dave said.

I have worked with Dolby, GDC, and Doremi servers and don't really see much difference in how they handle loading "content," other than that the Dolby has a nice user interface, while the UIs on the other two pretty much blow.

If I were giving advice to someone about how to distribute something in DCP form, I would suggest this:

- 500GB or smaller 3.0 Gb/s SATA drive (no large "advanced format" drives! or 6.0 GB/s-only SATA drives!) in CRU DX115 carrier shipped in Pelican 1400 case with CRU "Movedock" USB adapter and power supply
- ext2 or ext3 filesystem
- DCP files in root directory with permissions set to 644

I would _strongly_ advise against the following:

- any USB-powered external drive
- any firewire external drive or combination firewire/USB external drive
- files not in root directory

I would also _strongly_ advise against the use of encryption for screenings at festivals and special events.

Edit: Also: follow the DCP naming convention! And tag the files correctly (feature, trailer, policy, etc.)!

The defacto standard in germany is the CRU/USB combo drive. Although you see a lot of USB-only consumer grade drives as well.

Strange: for what my colleagues in Germany reported me, last months we saw the ratio going thru 60+% of drive from the "USB-only" (say "commodity hardware" or not so far) model.

A lot of systems ingest through USB, because a lot of systems still lack a CRU slot. But the drives themselves are usually CRU/Movedocks. Some service companies now stop providing the detachable USB interface and suggest to cinemas to keep one of them on site instead.

A lot of smaller distributors actually use consumer grade portable USB powered 2.5" drives.

BTW - I recently asked a Sony representative about SATA/CRU options for SRX220/320/LMT200/LMT300 systems. They will not offer something, so the only ingest options are USB 2.0 or network. Only the new SRX-R515 will offer USB 3.0 and CRU.

To my knowledge, the Dolbys are more picky than the Doremis
I tend to agree. That said, they both behave perfectly if the DCP is properly mastered.
In fairness, Dolby servers get rid of the packing list, they simply do not use it. Hence, if there is a problem with it, it won't be a problem for a Dolby.
Dolby also like content with higher-than-DCI bitrate (say 450Mbit/s), Doremi don't.
But as said, there shouldn't be any issues with both brands assuming the DCP is made properly.

Also, I can't see how a 5.1 DCP could run in 2.0, unless 4 channels are just silence on the DCP. Servers do not have any feature to change the audio, which leaves the server in digital form, and reach a sound processor/DA adaptor to be decoded as "discret" signal. No fake DSP's inside DCI servers.
