No, the Christie is an IMS, in that it also contains the SMS ('Screen Management System') and needs no external server.
In other words, it's an IMB WITH integrated SMS, but with external storage.
The 'S' in IMS does not strictly stand for 'storage' but for 'server' - which means, it is not just a MediaBlock in the terms of DCI spec, but it also contains the necessary software to play, control, schedule, ingest, etc. - the 'Screen Management System'.
GDC uses the term 'standalone IMB' for their IMB with SMS.
The Doremi IMS1000 includes storage (3 drive 2,5" RAID5) in/on the IMS
The Christie IMS comes in two flavours - as a series-II IMS for Christie Series-II projectors (e.g. retrofit), or as a fixed installation within the SolariaOne S2k. Same specs and features, but not exchangeable. In the SolariaOne, the IMS is tightly integrated on board level with the rest of the projector electronics, not slotted. Hence it's not modular like the 'normal' Christie IMS.
The Christie IMS works in all Christie series-II projectors, while the Doremi IMS should work in all manufacturers series-II DLPs. So not just S2k.
The 'S' in IMS does not strictly stand for 'storage' but for 'server' - which means, it is not just a MediaBlock in the terms of DCI spec, but it also contains the necessary software to play, control, schedule, ingest, etc. - the Screen Managemt System.
