Justin, technically, OV and VF built on top of each other. That is, they usually share main assets, e.g. multiple language versions share the same video files. And versions with different subtitles may share the same audio and video file. But CPLs do not cross-reference other CPLs - every CPL is completely self contained and may reference individual and/or shared assets. But KDMs and the keys they contain are CPL bound. E.g. you may have an english OV KDM with valid keys for specific assets. If there is an alternative language CPL, using the same assets, the alternative language version still can not be played back even if the necessary keys are contained in the original language KDM. You need a separate KDM carrying the (same) keys so that the server will associate them with the CPL it is intended for.

One KDM per CPL. Yes, there are now specific versions of bundled KDMs for multiple screens and multiple CPLs in one file - but that is just a pragmatic approach for wrapping and distribution. Technically, the server still associates one KDM with one CPL.

Carsten: I guess another way to think of it is there is a bundle of assets which go with the movie (pictures; audio - including 5.1, 7.1, auro, Spanish, etc; sub-titles;; captions; and so forth). Then the CPL designates which parts of the package it needs to play the specific version of the feature. For example a CPL for 2D 5.1 English with English captions would pick those components from the package and then you would need a matching key.

Just to be clear, I understand how this works. And I realize the OV and VF make this a little more complicated, I'm just trying to think of the easiest way for a novice to conceptualize what happens.

Assuming the versions are the same length, would the 2D and 3D versions of the movie use the same 5.1 and 7.1 audio files? I know there is a different set of picture files for 2D and 3D.

It is entirely possible that the audio files are the same...you could always look in the content and see if the UUIDs are the same between the 2D and 3D versions.

Ingesting an OV and then a VF version in a Dolby may make this easier to comprehend. Load in the OV version of the movie...it takes the normal amount of time to load and then verify. Then load in a VF version (say, a 7.1 sound of it). The ingest time will be very fast...it only had to transfer the audio files...but when it verifies...it is the normal time...why...it is verifying the whole CPL...picture and sound.

Just to update the information on main subject. I received an email from Deluxe explaining the procedure for this test. The keys for the test are good from 12:01 11/18 (Monday night) until 8:00am 11/19. These test keys are supposed to be emailed Monday night, 11/17

The regular feature keys will be sent after 10:00pm on 11/19, and will not be active until 5:00pm 11/20.

b) The partial package file --
R1MockingjayPT1_TEST_S_EN-XX-CCAP_US_51-HI-VI-DBOX_4K_LION_20141108_DLA_IOP_VF

c) Then ingest the key for “R1MockingjayPT1_TEST…”

d) Make a playlist/map with only the partial package “R1MockingjayPT1_TEST…”

3. **MAKE SURE TO DELETE THIS QC PLAYLIST AFTER PERFORMING THE TEST AND CREATE A NEW PLAYLIST WITH THE RELEASE FEATURE ONLY.**

4. Release keys for this title will be sent Wednesday 11/19 after 10:00 PM local time activating The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 on Thursday 11/20 at 5pm

Sure sounds like an awful lot of rigamarole just to play a movie....but AH, it stops PIRACY in it's tracks. Or so they say.

Justin: Bear in mind also that a KDM is not a decryption key. A KDM contains keys AND a playout window. So even if the proper keys have been transmitted for certain assets, they can not be played if they haven't been associated to a specific CPL and playout window by the KDM metadata.

KDMs are CPL related, the keys within are asset-related. Every individual reel can have it's own individual decryption key. A single KDM for a specific CPL may contain dozends of keys for all assets needed for that CPL to play - e.g. 6 reels of video, 6 reels of audio, 6 reels of subtitles, etc.

Hmm. We didn't get the test key or that email. Just the "regular" key arrived late this evening. Oh well...fingers crossed I guess.

Look for the Reel test in the Test content named "R1mockingjaypt1test". Unfortunately it's only good until 8:00am.

While the content or rather the CPL will probably be there, without a key you're still nowhere [Wink]

I loaded it last night and we got an email today saying the complete feature would unlock at noon as opposed to 5pm as previously stated. And indeed it was unlocked when I checked just now.
