The DSS200 will not self-pause...though I would suppose one could wire a GPO to the Pause input on the same GPIO connector. Via an automation, it should not be an issue.
But that would require an additional external timer input that has to be triggered (and maybe even programmed) at the start of the main feature. Not really a pretty solution, or am I missing something?

Nope, not a pretty solution. The DSS200 really uses an external automation...which is how I prefer it anyway. For instance, we use the eCNA automation...so it really isn't a big deal.

The intermission feature I mentioned coming in System 4.8 also does not self-pause it merely allows one to put a sub-playlist anywhere in the show...including mid feature. Thus, if one pads it with enough blanks or content like a countdown timer, ...the show never stops but it effectively does. As I said, I see it having uses beyond just an intermission...it could be a handy "Ads" segment or "Previews" segment that gets edited on its own. Time will tell.

Peter you said the tech came in and installed the new software version 2.4.4 That is not the most recent version on the Doremi. The current version is 2.6.3 and that will give you the intermission feature.

I have also seen ingest speeds have increased significantly with 2.6.3 Both local via CRU and Network, even though I see nothing mentioning that in the release notes

Hi Tim,

I'll check later when I'm next at the cinema but I think the IMS software is 2.4.4 which is the latest and I think I did see somewhere on our system a number that is 2.6.3. If we do have the latest software does that mean we should be able to do 'proper' intermissions as I have looked every where on the system and can't find anything to suggest that it is possible yet. The only added feature I have noticed is the function to be able to add an automation to rewind the film after it is paused.

I have managed to find this manual online for the system we have

http://www.doremilabs.com/downloads/manuals/IMS1000_User_Manual_002949_v1_3.pdf

Regards
Pete

You are correct, on the IMS the latest version is indeed 2.4.4

You were right, I didn't notice that you had an IMS.

However Doremi Just released 2.6.4 for the IMS today. And it looks like it has Intermission Support according to the update notes.

They also just released 2.6.4 for the dcp2000 and showvault as well

any potential for an actual intermission feature in the software for Christie projectors (we have the solaria one+).

Current we create a macro that pauses the movie and switched to a blu-ray player for the intermission. Its not smooth and it only allows us to have our intermission files on the blu-ray disc as oppose to DCP.

The pause looks so sudden, even at the right spot

The current Christie IMS software does feature an intermission function, see page 80 here:

Christie IMS Manual

It allows you to play an intermission CPL between two playliste segments, just like it works on Sonys, Doremis, Dolbys in latest software releases.

You may need to perform a software upgrade on the Solaria One+ to get this feature.

But - there is no 'smooth' intermission, even for those systems (Sony, Doremi, Dolby) with explicit intermission feature. You could create an audio fade, but the picture can only be hard switched. One could bring up the house lights at that point so the image switchover would be covered by the distraction this creates and the brightening of the screen. With a well tested timing, this could produce a somewhat graceful transition. Depends on the specific movie wether there is a suitable segment, fade to black, etc. Reducing the lamp current won't cut it.

Could be a nice feature for a software update for all systems to produce a nice fade for both video and audio within the media block (USL - are you listening?).

Unless things have changed at the film studios can you cut in on a single feature and put in your own intermission? Many years ago at the Century 21 Cinerama type Domes in San Jose CA the Syufy clan did this on some long features to sell more popcorn, the studios did not like this and pulled some prints out because of this. Now in 2014/2015 many movies last way to long. Would be nice to have a built in candy/bathroom break for 10 minutes built in by the film companies for extra long presentations. Just like the old days with 70mm roadshows. Some smart movie company or director may even bring back programs to sell during the intermission and candy girls working the aisles.

It is customary in many countries to have an intermission in all performances. As such, the various server companies have come up with means to "insert" one.

I have one customer that has used the Dolby version to effectively "snip" off "attached" trailers to the feature.

I worked for Syufy back then. They actually did it on every feature for a while until they were busted.

The manager ordered me to place the "Rocky" intermission right at the place where he would not have to pay the candy girls overtime rather than wait 3 minutes to a more "natural" place. Of course the last show of the night the intermission snipe would fly right through if I was not there to douse out and people would start to get up and then the show would continue to the end. Not exactly fine showmanship.

Did the intermission snipe actually read "Intermission 10 minutes"? If not, then you delivered an intermission as advertised. [Razz]

Our DSS200 is now running 4.8.something (cant remember, not there)

I was toying with the idea of using the intermission feature now available as a place to put Adverts And Previews so when those change, I only have one "show" to edit, not many

Can I add more than one intermission per playlist with this new feature or am I limited to 1?

Thanks Sam for your notes about the intermission bust at Syufy's Century theatres in San Jose. The old man must have been a true money saving type of owner. I hear he was one of the first to get rid of the union projectionists and janitors at his cinemas. I remember seeing all the pickets out front for many months. Many 35mm/70mm film prints were damaged by candy/manager type help. His make shift intermissions were loved by the older crowd that needed to go to the restroom, they skipped the candy counter because of the way to high prices. Those snack prices were cheap then compared to today's over priced drinks and popcorn.
