WoW! Steve- you're absolutely right (as usual).

For some reason I thought that hole had been for a neon pilot light.

No wonder the switch melted down.
I have no idea of the 'history' of that power strip before I had to deal
with it the other day, but seeing as how I found no trace of it in the ashes,
I'm assuming some Bozo pulled it out at some time in the past, and I
wouldn't be all that surprised if they pulled the breaker out because it
kept tripping due to the overload. D'oh! [Eek!]

I'm going to go back to that location as soon as I get a chance and see
what kind of load they were trying to pull through there.
